ROSSLYN CHAPEL

Rosslyn Chapel is a scotish chapel in Roslin. At the first it had to be the collegiate church dedicated to the st. Matthew. This XV-century is often called the bible forged in a stone beacause it has a lot of ornaments. There are a lot of legends about it. Templares had to keep their treasures in it and the ornaments had to show masonic's traditions. The chapel become popular from "Da Vinci's code" by Dan Brown. For now it is a Protestant church.

The temple contains many references to the traditions of the Knights Templar and Freemasons, being, according to many, the key to the secret knowledge about the fate of Jesus and the Grail. The Gothic Rosslyn Chapel was not raised from ruins until the second half of the 19th century in order to preserve its artistic value for future generations. Today, however, it is talked about for a completely different reason. The medieval temple and necropolis of the Sinclair clan in the village of Roslin near Edinburgh is filled with strange symbols that suggest that its builder may have possessed knowledge that was available only to narrow circles. The range of hypotheses ranges from claiming Rosslyn as a monument to the Templars and Masons to more elaborate ideas that the chapel may be a beacon to the hiding place of the Grail, a relic of Jesus, or a legendary treasure of the order.

Rosslyn Chapel is one of the most famous religious sites of Scotland, made even more famous in the past few years due to the ,,Da Vinci Code" film. Rosslyn Chapel is an architectural wonder: although it was never completely finished, it has impressive features such as a sculptured ceiling of stars, roses and a dove with an olive branch. Building is actually quite modest in size, but so full of finely detailed stonework that you can easily spend an hour just enjoying the tour and admiring the intricate stonework. The highlight of the chapel, in terms of stone masonry, is the famous "Prentice Pillar".

Staff are on hand in the chapel to give informative talks and answer questions. Rosslyn chapel to be genuinely fascinating, but visitors without a good understanding of English may not get so much from the tour which is largely reliant on the guide's commentary.

Photography is not permitted inside the chapel!
